Frontier Welcomes Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh to officially open thehub:mk

29th November 2007:  What a day to remember!!

Hundreds of flag waving, smiling people lined the streets to see Her Majesty The Queen accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh arrive to officially open thehub:mk.

On arrival, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness were shown an exhibition ‘Milton Keynes Life’ in the Encore Hotel and also met a few of the city’s prospective Paralympians and Olympians for Beijing 2008 and London in 2012 Lucy Prosser, Matthew Undrell, Eleanor Piggott, Devon Allen and Graham Joyce.

On leaving the hotel and entering the central Piazza,  Her Majesty was presented with a posy of flowers by Alicia Patey, aged 6, representing Frontier Estates.

The Queen and The Duke then walked through the piazza chatting with the crowds before unveiling a plaque to officially declare thehub:mk open.

During the Royal visit, entertainment was provided by the Congolese Choir, Rangla Punjab Bhangra Dancers, Kobold, Ambika Mandal and Milton Keynes Telugu Sangham, all local groups that demonstrate the ethnic diversity of the city’s residents.

The Queen also met artist Peter Freeman who described his latest interactive light sculpture, Lightflow, designed to lead people into thehub:mk and create a lively contemporary ambience for the piazza and its users.

Andrew Crowther and Adam Eldred, Joint Managing Directors of developer, Frontier Estates who accompanied Her Majesty and His Royal Highness said: “This is a tremendous accolade for Frontier and thehub:mk and we were delighted to host Her Majesty and His Royal Highness and 1500 invited guests. 

The atmosphere was fantastic, the sun was shining and we couldn’t have wished for a better way to officially announce thehub:mk open.”
